The Zika virus has reached our shores, having showed up in people in NSW, Victoria, Western Australia and now Queensland.
Residents in the Queensland town of Bowen, north of Airlie Beach are being urged to proactively get rid of a specific species of Mosquitoes that are prevalent in the area after one Zika sufferer returned to the area from a trip overseas.
The Zika carrying mosquito (Aedes aegypti mosquito) also carries Dengue Fever.
Townsville Public Health Unit director Steve Donohue said disease-control teams were sent to Bowen on Sunday and found several pockets of the mosquito, encouraging residents to actively get rid of the species of mosquito.
