A new and shocking study has revealed insect populations in areas around Germany are declining rapidly, and this could have dire consequences for the world’s crop production and natural ecosystems, scientists warn.
Flying insect populations have dropped by more than 75% over the course of the study which spanned 27 years, with the consequences far reaching and too many to mention.
The study conducted by researchers from Radboud University in the Netherlands and the Entomological Society Krefeld in Germany believe that the loss of insect diversity and abundance will provoke ripple effects on food webs and jeopardize ecosystem services.
