Instead of reaching for the insecticide spray the next time you see an ant or cockroach in your home, here are better ways to deal with bugs, according to Tanya Latty, an entomologist at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney.

1. Empty your bin regularly

2. Store all food in containers with insect-proof lids

3. Encourage predator insects to do the work for you, such as spiders.

4. Wipe down insect trails and wash off aphids.

5. Opt for baits instead of chemical sprays

In our opinion the best way to keep insects out without harmful chemical sprays that do your family more harm than good, is with insect screens over your doors and windows. This is the most environmentally friendly and healthy option.
