As if you needed any more convincing to have your doors and windows covered with insect screens, it turns out it’s bees and not snakes that we should most afraid of in Australia, according to a recent study out of the University of Melbourne.
Bees and other stinging insects such as wasps pose a greater public health threat according to research of more than a decade of Australian bites and stings.
Bees and wasps apparently have the most dangerous effect on a person once bitten/stung.
Over a 13 year period, 42,000 hospitalisations occurred including fatalities due to venomous stings and bites.
Bees and wasps were to blame for 33 per cent of these hospital admissions, followed by spider bites and then snake bites.
Overall there were 64 fatalities, 27 caused by bees or wasps.
