Do you have a question about our award winning retractable fly screens?
Check out the most common questions we hear from our customers below.
What is a retractable fly screen and how does it work?
A retractable fly screen is a discreet, modern alternative to fixed screens. The mesh is housed in a slim sealed frame and slides across your opening when needed. When not in use, it slides neatly back out of sight, keeping your view clear and your home looking clean and uncluttered.
What types of doors and windows can they be fitted to?
Retractable fly screens can be fitted to almost any opening, including sliding doors, French doors, bi-folds, stacker doors, hinged doors, and most styles of windows. They’re custom-made to suit your frame and can be installed in both new builds and existing homes. We also have a great corner screen option.
What doors are suitable to screen?
Pull across screens suitable for:
- Single doors
- French doors
- Bifold doors
- Stacking doors
- Sliding doors
Pull down screens suitable for:
- Servery openings
- Windows
- Balconies
Motorised vertical screens suitable for:
- Patio and outdoor spaces
Other applications:
- Caravan doors/windows
- Tiny homes
Are they custom-made to size?
Yes. Each screen is built to measure, ensuring a perfect fit for your opening. Large spans such as stacker or corner doors are easily accommodates, and some of our products can cover openings up to several metres wide. Our screens suit openings from 0.8 metres wide to 6.5 metres in a single span or up to 13 metres in a double screen.
Can they be retrofitted to existing doors and windows?
Absolutely. Retractable fly screens can usually be added to your current doors and windows without major alterations. Installation is quick and neat, and in most cases doesn’t require drilling into your main frames.
Are they durable and safe for kids and pets?
Yes. The mesh and tracks are designed to handle daily use. Many models feature soft-close systems to prevent slamming and are safe for children. While no screen is completely pet-proof, stronger mesh options and bottom-track designs help withstand paws and playful bumps.
Do they keep out small insects like midges, or just flies and mosquitoes?
Standard mesh keeps out flies and mosquitoes. If you live in an area with midges or sandflies, we can provide fine mesh options designed to block even the smallest insects while still allowing airflow.
Importantly our systems feature a retained zip so when retracted its completely sealed. Be aware that there are other cheaper systems on the market known as pleated screens – these systems fold up like a concertina and do not have a zip so insects and pets can get through and have poor visibility.
(Don’t get cheated by pleated)
How do I clean and maintain them?
Maintenance is simple: vacuum or brush the tracks occasionally to keep them free of dust and debris, and gently wipe the mesh with a damp cloth. With basic care, your screens will stay smooth and reliable for many years.
You should expect to use this screen for well over 10 years provided you maintain it by cleaning the tracks regularly.
We provide a care kit with silicon spray, micro fibre cloth and track guide dirt remover tool.
What happens if the mesh tears or comes off the track?
Don’t panic, our screens are designed to be serviceable. The mesh can be re-tensioned or replaced without replacing the entire system, and the tracks can be adjusted if the screen slips out. Our service team can quickly get your screen back to working order.
How much do retractable fly screens cost?
Pricing depends on the size of your opening, the type of screen, and the mesh option you choose. Expect to pay between $500 – $3000 depending on the size of the opening and style of door. We provide free measure and quotes remove space so you know exactly what to expect.
What is the difference between Infinity Zipline™ and Infinity ZLX™?
The main difference between the Infinity Zipline™ and the Infinity ZLX™ is the size capability, handle style, and colour.
The Infinity Zipline™ is our original retractable screen system, designed for large openings such as stacker, bi-fold and French doors. It features our patented mesh-to-track retention system, smooth braking technology, and can span up to 9 metres in a double-screen configuration. Infinity Zipline™ is only available in black or white and is an excellent market-entry choice for most residential applications where a sleek, discreet retractable screen is required.
The Infinity ZLX™ is our next-generation premium retractable screen system, engineered for even larger openings and enhanced performance. It offers colour matching to your existing door frames, a refined low-profile design, effortless sliding operation, upgraded captured mesh technology, and can span up to 13 metres in a double-screen configuration. The ZLX is ideal for expansive architectural openings and homeowners seeking the latest in retractable screen innovation.
Both systems are custom-made, Australian designed and manufactured, and available with a range of mesh options.
What warranty and after-sales service do you provide?
Our retractable fly screens are supplied with a manufacturer’s warranty on both the frame and mesh. Our team also provides ongoing after-sales service, including adjustments, and advice to keep your screens working at their best for years to come.
Please talk to our team to discuss the warranty for your screens – we have a 5-year warranty for systems that are supplied with Pet-Lite Mesh and we recommend this premium product to maximise your warranty benefits. We also provide a 5-year warranty on the screen system only excluding the mesh for all other types. Our team can replace or upgrade your mesh at any time if damage occurs.
What colours can I make my screen in
Any Dulux or Interpon powder coat colour (certain colours attract a powder coat surcharge).
